There is an air of inevitably around the load-shedding situation with Eskom. Particularly because Eskom has extended it’s load-shedding roster from four stages to eight stages of severity. It would be a wise idea to start stocking up on alternative lighting sources, such as battery operated torch/lamps and candles.
According to the load-shedding schedule, stage eight load-shedding is set to leave affected consumers without power for about six to seven of the load-shedding slots per day. To clarity this, each load-shedding slot on the schedule is two and a half hours long, with consecutive slots overlapping by half an hour. Which effectively means, if you do the math, stage eight has the potential of leaving affected consumers powerless for up to 17.5 hours!
This is a strong indicator of the dire situation Eskom finds themselves in. The parastatal are fighting fires on the financial aspect as well as resources, with their coal plants and boilers taking severe strain, with ten of it’s coal plants having less than twenty days of coal supply left.
