In terms of a new debt control measure which came into effect on the 23 July 2012, the next time you make a prepaid electricity, the municipality will deduct part of all of the amount owing. You would receive an allocation for the remainder or none if the whole amount is taken.

This is inline with with the municipality’s revenue management and customer by-laws as well as it’s credit control policy. So, keeping this in mind, it’s important to remember it is normal policy for a municipality to disconnect/block consumer electricity meters for any arrears owing.
